Channel 9′s mini-series Schapelle, a drama about Schapelle Corby – the drug trafficker currently languishing in an Indonesian jail, has sparked something of a fight amongst actresses keen to take on the role. Early reports were that Abbie Cornish was number one choice for the drama, which begins pre-production in September and won’t be seen until 2014, but now Krew Boylan (who is currently on 7′s A Place To Call Home) is said to be in the running. Meanwhile pretty much every actress in Australia would be relishing the opportunity to take on the high profile role.
The mini-series being made for Nine by Fremantle Media and will use the book Sins of the Fathers written by journalist Eamonn Duff, as its starting point. Other names expected to appear in the drama include Noni Hazlehurst and Michael Caton with filming due to take place on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
The Corby family are naturally enough not keen on the project having seen the family name generate enough column inches and screen time to last several generations!
